Hair Journey: The Beginning

I am a huge fan of hair. Especially long hair LOL. I could talk hair all day with complete and total strangers in the middle of Walmart at 12:30 A.M. Since I am beginning another hair journey (growing my hair to waist length), I thought I'd share it here also. I will post everything I am doing, using, tweaking, everything!!!

I'm secretly obsessed with British culture. I could listen to one of my favorite bloggers, Meek-n-Mild, read the want ads and be completely intrigued as if she were reading Twilight!

Anywho, after searching thru her blog for a bit... 2 hours later, I'd realized that there are so many things I don't share with you guys. I don't photograph every outfit that's cute nor do I share my everyday shopping, hanging out with friends and family, etc. I have the tendency to share only what "I Think" people want to see. Yet, I go to Shirley's blog and I wanna see anything... even if she bought a pack of tube socks I'd be like, Cool! LOL

So one of my goals this year on my blog is to share a lot more. Not to over think every post as if Anna Wintour is going to be reading or viewing. Just have fun like I did when I first started this blog. Hope you guys enjoy!

I've been pairing black & white a lot lately. It's one of those combos that can be very far to the left or very far to the right. It can be classy when you add red, or fun when you add pink. Any bag in your closet that you grab will match it! That's my fail safe combo... noir et blanc (took AP French in college LOL).

OT: I've talked a few times about my shape. I'm a fairly typical "pear" shape. Dresses with this cut (a-line) are perfect for downplaying wide hips or "thunder thighs". I've gotten very good at dressing my body-type. Often people think I'm smaller than I actually am because I play up the parts of me that are small (neckline, arms, and wrist). I also accentuate my waist as often as possible and I try play up my long legs. My legs are so friggin long!!! My hubby is 6'0 and my legs are the same length as his!

I love that quote because it is so true. I remember a few years back when I went to the military ball with my ubby in a $600 dollar dress and I had on Forever21 heels and a payless clutch LMBO. I felt fabulous! Half the women there went for broke on everything fom their shoes to their hair. I went to Walmart and bought a set of hot rollers for $30 and rolled out. Yes, high-end items are on my wishlist, however, I still feel just as fabulous in something off the Target clearance rack.

11 Random Things About Shalilac

1. I taught myself how to dance and sing when I was a little girl. I watched "Fame" religiously and Janet Jackson videos. I studied ballet moves through the television. My mother took me to see the Alvin Ailey Dance Group and it was a wrap! I was hooked. I learned the names of certain ballet moves from watching "Fame" and now I teach them to my girls.

2. I love how I feel after I meditate, but I don't make the time to do it.

3. I see a therapist. She's not a psychiatrist. She's a therapist and she's awesome. Since going I have referred a number of people that have told me about their problems and it has helped them a lot also. I highly recommend going to one at least once in your lifetime.

4. I name my cars. The minivan is Betsy (after Betsy Johnson of course), my hubby's car is named Mara (after me LOL), and my Volky Cabriolet is named Weezy.

5. The story behind my hummingbird tattoo... you ever been standing outside and looking at nature and all its beauty and just felt God's presence? Well, I was having one of those moments when this beautiful hummingbird came so close to my eyeball that if I blinked my eyelashes would have touched his beak. He then flew over to my ear and hovered there as if he was whispering to me. If could hear his wings flapping. Then he came back to my face and then flew away. I took as confirmation that God was there and He's always there and that He hears me (and sees me too). The tattoo was the perfect way to cement that moment in my mental Rolodex. The colorful hummingbirds, like the one on my neck and that I saw that day, are not the hummingbirds common to Georgia. We get the little grey ones with a lil blue on the chest. This bird was colorful just like the Dr. Bird of Jamaica. Amazing!

6. My favorite number has always been 3 and things always happen to me in 3's. The third time I went to college I got my degree. My hubby is my third serious relationship (and last). I've been pregnant 3 times and have 3 kids. My wedding band is made up of 3 rings. My birthday equals 3 (and so does my mother's). I attended 3 different high schools. I've always had 3 good friends or people I can trust at a time. If someone is trying to get close to me and I already have 3, I always think something may be off about them (and I'm usually right). My anniversary date equals 3. I only have 2 dogs and for some reason it feels incomplete. Like I need another pet LOL. We own 3 cars. My home address starts with a 3 and so does my phone number. Anyways, as you can see, 3 be all up in my life LOL.

7. I'm so anti-digital books it's ridiculous. I could not imagine not being able to go to the library and check out a real book. I need to hold the book, turn the pages, smell the pages. As much as I love technology, I can't stand the nook book crap. I want my kids to feel that excitement of getting a library card with their name on it and check out the books themselves. I want them to feel responsible for the books and their safe return. Ehhh... call me old school.

8. The older I get the more I love romantic movies. Anything with a good romance goin on, even if there are bombs, shooting, and blood... just add a good romance to it and you've got me LOL. Like Slumdog Millionaire was so violent and at times depressing, but their love story was just... WOW!

9. My pet peeve: Judgemental people. I remember when I was a young thang I worked at Goodies. Ya'll remember Goodies right? So, we were closing up and folding clothes, putting things back in their place and the radio was still playing. So, I'm doing my job and singing along with the radio.
Co-worker Chick goes, "Ain't that a white people song?"
Me: "If you mean are white people are singing this song then yes."
Chick: "Ugh!"
WHAT THE CRAP?!!?!?!?!??!?!!!?!??!?!??!
I can't stand crap like that! That is so friggin ignorant. Don't come around me if you wanna talk that folk this, and this folk that. I don't wanna hear it! That was some real Twilight Zone mess! Wooo... lemme get off my soapbox.

10. With that being said, please be yourself. "Be who you are; Make no apologies". There is nothing better than the you you are meant to be. Only you can be your best you. I can't be "Karla's Closet" (lurv her!!!) or "Dulce Candy" (I DIE!!!). I ain't got it like that $$$. But I can be the best "She Ain't No Diva" there is!

11. I HATE REALITY SHOWS! It's always the same thing. There is always some crazy, dramatic moment on every episode. Worse than of soap opera (at least soap operas save the drama for Fridays). It's every episode with them! If it's a reality show featuring women, somebody gonna have a fight, get indignant and call each other out their name. If it's one of those (my hubby watches them ALL) folks that catch fish, or looking for gold, or even the log boys (the ones that go and look for old logs), every episode is the same. There is always a near death experience. Those people must all have terrible blood pressure! I can't take it. So far T.I. and Tiny haven't ticked me off. Matter of fact, I relate to them in a lot of ways. They're so cute LOL.

OMG! I bet ya'll didn't know I could actually talk that much LOL.

1. What is the most money you have ever spent on a Fashionable item? Okay, now I really gotta think on this one. Most of my higher priced stuff were gifts from the hubby, so they don't count. My first Coach bag. It was $99. I swear that's the most I've dropped on anything, but I'm a deal hunter. I'm like a pitbull. I won't quit til I find it at a price I can afford.

2. Do you currently use and/or stick to a budget? Yes and no. I sometimes spend more on clothes than I mean to and it taps into my "beauty" budget (you know.. mani; pedi, facial crap).

3. If you could have a singer’s voice, who’s would you choose? Stephanie Mills. I know ya'll young folk don't know her, but Stephanie will put half these chicks now up under the floor! If I had to pick a more recent voice it would definitely be Melanie Fiona. If you listen to her voice, not the words, just the tomes in her voice, you can hear it. She has an amazing instrument. She would mess some chicks up for sure if she got better producers.

4. Have you ever calculated your net worth? Ummmm... no. Should I? Didn't think I had a "net worth" except to my hubby and kids LOL.

5. What goal do you have for your Blog this year? I would luv to hit 200 "Lovelys", as I like to call them, this year. I would also like to build a great business relationship with a company I actually like. That would be awesome.

6. Do you know how much money you will need for retirement? Sure do.

7. How much money do you spend on lunch per day? $0.00. I used to spend like crazy when my bestie and I would eat out everyday (weight gain). Now when she says where we going to eat I say I'm goin home LOL.

Get Me Bodied- Weight Watchers

So I'm sure everybody, they momma, and they dogs have seen Jennifer Hudson showing off her fabulous body. The commercials either make you cringe or make you smile. Either way the truth is this... Jennifer looks amazing and healthy. I was one of those folks that claimed she lost too much weight or that her head looked too big for her body LMBO. I was just trying to cover-up my own issues with my recent weight gain. For a few months now I've been working out only to lose a few pounds and then gain it back. I didn't change the way I ate... AT ALL!!! I don't know why I was trying to fool myself.

So recently I decided to join Weight Watchers. First of all, I'm not crazy. I know I'm not over-weight. The point is I don't want to be either. At the start I weighed 152 lbs and had a BMI of 24. For my height, a healthy weight is 121-153 lbs and a healthy BMI should range from 18.5-25. As you can see I'm knockin on unhealthy's door. Which explains some of the health issues I've had over the past year and a half. In 2009 I was a healthy 140 lbs and my BMI was 22. Right in the middle where I like to be.

For some folks this is still considered "thick", but for me it's healthy. Again ... for me. At this point (and age) I have got to take my health seriously. So since I've got working out down, I wanna tackle my eating habits.

Weight Watchers is so simple too. I have the app on my phone and I just make sure I track everything I eat. I joined on Monday and started tracking the next day. I've already lost 2 lbs. It's refreshing to not feel like you HAVE to eat like a rabbit all day. Though I must say that eating fruits and veggies are the best way to go because they don't cost you a thing (as far as points are concerned). I have to stay off the scale though. I wanna get on it everyday LOL.

If any of you have ever tried it or are thinking about trying it, please chime in. I would love to know what your experiences have been.

What is it about skinny jeans that make you feel so fierce. I squeezed all my thighs and hips up in them thangs and said, "Screw it!" It felt good to just go with it. I am learning so much on this journey called life. Even in the blogging world I learn so much about self-acceptance from some of these bloggers. We women really are some amazing creatures!

Ok... so I am crazy about these shoes and this bag. I was (past tense) a member of both Sole Society and Just Fab, but I had to let them go. So don't worry this isn't a plug so I can get a hundred million shoes. Stuff was showing up (the UPS guy calls me Shay... ummmm... can we say "addict"!) and I didn't even remember purchasing it. It was just not a healthy relationship for my wallet. So, we called it quits, but not before I ordered one last thing from each of them. SAD!!!! These shoes are so high I needed tynenol after wearing them, but I just adore them so. The colors go with anything you can think of and they make your legs and tush look amazing (what's a stiletto for anyway!) The bag is so much more amazing than the website photos! It has 50-11 compartments and such inside (even a secret one). I luv big bags too! The color is awesome and its the only color bag I did not own. So I enjoyed welcoming it to the family.

It’s been a "behind-the-scenes" dream of mine for about 2-3 years now.

Get Me Bodied- Cold Weather Workouts

Did you know that while working out in cold weather you can burn 10 to 40 percent more calories than if you worked out in the hot weather? Sure shocked the crap outta me! I usually amp up my workouts closer to spring/summer just because the weather (and the colors) is much more welcoming. So, now ladies, get out there early in the morning. We should be setting our clocks back soon and gaining an hour of morning light. Perefect time for a morning jog, brisk walk, or even hop on your bike and go for a ride. Make sure you dress appropriately for the weather and just get moving. 30 minutes a day is enough to keep the heart healthy!

Mar 2002- Me in cold Germany getting ready to go for a run. My son was about 3 mths old here. Believe me, he was warm enough LOL! That was the stroller of all strollers. We used to call it the Caddy (Escalade) with 20's LMBO!

Here are some tips from Live In The Now that I thought were great for making cold weather workouts easier and more fun:

Find a buddy who’s willing to go with you. Having an exercise partner is always a winning strategy. In winter, it can be an essential ingredient.

Try a new activity. Cross country skiing, snow shoeing or winter hiking all seem more like an adventure than a chore. All of activities will have you sweating bullets in no time making the cold less intimidating. Studies have shown that you will get the best results with exercise you enjoy.

Invest in great winter workout clothes. There’s so much high tech stuff out there. Go to a local sporting goods store and ask for help in picking out the best clothing for your sport. A jogger or runner will have completely different needs than a walker. Jacket, hat, gloves and appropriate pants can make all the difference. Buy bright colors! Winter can seem so dreary.

Take time to warm up inside before you go out. If you do something aerobic inside, like bounding up and down the stairs a few times or marching in place in front of the TV or dancing—that blast of cold air won’t seem so bad when you step outside. And it protects your heart from strain. If you warm up inside, you can stretch before you go out too.

Drink something warm. You might even like to take a thermos along for few soothing sips along the way.

Try walking poles. Using the additional upper body muscle group will help you warm up faster and boost your workout. And the poles can help stabilize you on any icy or snowy patches.

Switch to low-cut hikers or cross-trainers. Shoes like these offer more traction and warmth than sneakers.

Find a park or track where other people like to exercise. Being around others who are dedicated to walking, jogging or running will be motivating.

Try interval training, a great way to fire up your outdoor winter workout. Short bursts of speed help burn more calories and fire up your metabolism. And you’ll rev up your body temperature too. Before you know it, your hands won’t need gloves and you’ll be pulling down the zipper on your jacket!

Take earrings out. Pierced earrings magnify the cold to your ear lobes.

Wear sunscreen, chapstick and sunglasses. Sun is strong enough to burn during the winter and is especially potent when there’s snow on the ground.

Don’t give up! If you just can’t face the cold, try indoor DVD workouts, dust off your treadmill or stationary bike and put it in a sunny spot, or take your Ipod to the local mall or indoor track. Join a dance or yoga class, try tai chi or qigong, or play indoor tennis or racquetball.

The Anti-Aging Bottom Line: Don’t let cold weather sideline you during the winter. Maintaining your fitness level during the cold winter months is important if you want to stay healthy year-round. Do what it takes to get yourself motivated and get moving! Hibernation just isn’t a healthy option for humans.

Please, if you haven't already, go cop that Jill Scott "The light of the Sun" album. You are seriously missing out on some good music. This post is named after Jill's jam "Rolling Hills". She tore this song up at the awards show in July. Not to mention she had fine Idris Elba playing her man in the skit LOL! Anyways, cop that! I thought this song was perfect because I wasn't wearing any spanx with this dress and you can see my rolling hills LOL. I was so tempted to photoshop those jokers out LOL!

Today's outfit is so simple and basic I almost didn't share. As for the specs, I like wearing my glasses more in the winter. In the summer it's too hot and they melt down your nose every two seconds. My outfit posts will be a far and few between because I work from home and there's not really a need to waste a good outfit sitting at my computer. While I Was Out- Disney on Ice

So Sunday my girls were invited to see "Disney on Ice" at Philips Arena here in the ATL. So I dragged the hubby and the son along. Let me say this... the show was awesome! We loved it. My girls faces lit up when they saw Princess Tiana and my son enjoyed the fireworks and crazy stunts the performers did on the ice. I would definitely recommend anyone and everyone go see it if it comes to their area.

Now these pics kinda suck. We didn't know cameras were allowed so I left the "good" camera at home. These pics were taken with the cell, so this is the best I got. Enjoy anyways LOL!

And yes, you've guessed it... "While I Was Out" is also a new feature. I thought you guys might appreciate some organization to my randomness LOL.

Here's yet another new feature... Get Me Bodied! I'm super excited about this one because I am always searching for ways to be healthier and live healthier. It never matters much when you're young and healthy. You never imagine yourself sick. But when you get older, you realize juts how fragile the human body is. You begin to take account of how your behavior has affected your helath over the years. So, for my young readers... the shape of your teens will be the shape you live off in your 20's. The shape your in in your 20's is the shape you will live off of when your in your 30's. The shaped of your 30's you will live off of in your 40's... and so on and so on. If you spent your twenties drinking and partying hard... you will feel it at about your mid-thirties. TRUST ME! These are the things many moms don't tell their daughters. Build on your health now and your body will thank you later. Anywho...

As of late, I have been toying with the idea of going vegetarian (again... and eventually vegan) for a week or two now. Well, I think finding out that I'm greatly lactose intolerant helped. I swear everytime I eat a burger or chicken, my inner hippie is screaming at the top of her lungs, "NOOOOOOOOOO!"

There are many benefits to kicking meat and animal products out of your life. I know some of my readers are indeed environmentally conscious people. How do you all feel about giving meat the boot? If any of you are already vegetarians or vegans, are there any pointers you could give me before I begin to transition my family (again LOL) to a vegetarian diet? My hubby is going to be the biggest hurdle to get over LOL.

Why go veg? Chew on these reasons:

You’ll ward off disease. Vegetarian diets are more healthful than the average American diet, particularly in preventing, treating or reversing heart disease and reducing the risk of cancer. A low-fat vegetarian diet is the single most effective way to stop the progression of coronary artery disease or prevent it entirely. Cardiovascular disease kills 1 million Americans annually and is the leading cause of death in the United States. But the mortality rate for cardiovascular disease is lower in vegetarians than in nonvegetarians, says Joel Fuhrman, MD, author of Eat to Live: The Revolutionary Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss. A vegetarian diet is inherently healthful because vegetarians consume no animal fat and less cholesterol and instead consume more fiber and more antioxidant-rich produce—another great reason to listen to Mom and eat your veggies!

You’ll keep your weight down. The standard American diet—high in saturated fats and processed foods and low in plant-based foods and complex carbohydrates—is making us fat and killing us slowly. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and a division of the CDC, the National Center for Health Statistics, 64 percent of adults and 15 percent of children aged 6 to 19 are overweight and are at risk of weight-related ailments including heart disease, stroke and diabetes. A study conducted from 1986 to 1992 by Dean Ornish, MD, president and director of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, California, found that overweight people who followed a low-fat, vegetarian diet lost an average of 24 pounds in the first year and kept off that weight 5 years later. They lost the weight without counting calories or carbs and without measuring portions or feeling hungry.

You’ll live longer. If you switch from the standard American diet to a vegetarian diet, you can add about 13 healthy years to your life, says Michael F. Roizen, MD, author of The RealAge Diet: Make Yourself Younger with What You Eat. “People who consume saturated, four-legged fat have a shorter life span and more disability at the end of their lives. Animal products clog your arteries, zap your energy and slow down your immune system. Meat eaters also experience accelerated cognitive and sexual dysfunction at a younger age.”

Want more proof of longevity? Residents of Okinawa, Japan, have the longest life expectancy of any Japanese and likely the longest life expectancy of anyone in the world, according to a 30-year study of more than 600 Okinawan centenarians. Their secret: a low-calorie diet of unrefined complex carbohydrates, fiber-rich fruits and vegetables, and soy.

You’ll build strong bones. When there isn’t enough calcium in the bloodstream, our bodies will leach it from existing bone. The metabolic result is that our skeletons will become porous and lose strength over time. Most health care practitioners recommend that we increase our intake of calcium the way nature intended— through foods. Foods also supply other nutrients such as phosphorus, magnesium and vitamin D that are necessary for the body to absorb and use calcium.

People who are mildly lactose-intolerant can often enjoy small amounts of dairy products such as yogurt, cheese and lactose-free milk. But if you avoid dairy altogether, you can still get a healthful dose of calcium from dry beans, tofu, soymilk and dark green vegetables such as broccoli, kale, collards and turnip greens.

You’ll reduce your risk of food-borne illnesses. The CDC reports that food-borne illnesses of all kinds account for 76 million illnesses a year, resulting in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths in the United States. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), foods rich in protein such as meat, poultry, fish and seafood are frequently involved in food-borne illness outbreaks.

You’ll ease the symptoms of menopause. Many foods contain nutrients beneficial to perimenopausal and menopausal women. Certain foods are rich in phytoestrogens, the plant-based chemical compounds that mimic the behavior of estrogen. Since phytoestrogens can increase and decrease estrogen and progesterone levels, maintaining a balance of them in your diet helps ensure a more comfortable passage through menopause. Soy is by far the most abundant natural source of phytoestrogens, but these compounds also can be found in hundreds of other foods such as apples, beets, cherries, dates, garlic, olives, plums, raspberries, squash and yams. Because menopause is also associated with weight gain and a slowed metabolism, a low-fat, high-fiber vegetarian diet can help ward off extra pounds.

You’ll have more energy. Good nutrition generates more usable energy—energy to keep pace with the kids, tackle that home improvement project or have better sex more often, Michael F. Roizen, MD, says in The RealAge Diet. Too much fat in your bloodstream means that arteries won’t open properly and that your muscles won’t get enough oxygen. The result? You feel zapped. Balanced vegetarian diets are naturally free of cholesterol-laden, artery-clogging animal products that physically slow us down and keep us hitting the snooze button morning after morning. And because whole grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables are so high in complex carbohydrates, they supply the body with plenty of energizing fuel.

You’ll be more “regular.” Eating a lot of vegetables necessarily means consuming more fiber, which pushes waste out of the body. Meat contains no fiber. People who eat lower on the food chain tend to have fewer instances of constipation, hemorrhoids and diverticulitis.

You’ll help reduce pollution. Some people become vegetarians after realizing the devastation that the meat industry is having on the environment. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), chemical and animal waste runoff from factory farms is responsible for more than 173,000 miles of polluted rivers and streams. Runoff from farmlands is one of the greatest threats to water quality today. Agricultural activities that cause pollution include confined animal facilities, plowing, pesticide spraying, irrigation, fertilizing and harvesting.

You’ll avoid toxic chemicals. The EPA estimates that nearly 95 percent of the pesticide residue in the typical American diet comes from meat, fish and dairy products. Fish, in particular, contain carcinogens (PCBs, DDT) and heavy metals (mercury, arsenic, lead, cadmium) that can’t be removed through cooking or freezing. Meat and dairy products can also be laced with steroids and hormones, so be sure to read the labels on the dairy products you purchase.

You’ll help reduce famine. About 70 percent of all grain produced in the United States is fed to animals raised for slaughter. The 7 billion livestock animals in the United States consume five times as much grain as is consumed directly by the American population. “If all the grain currently fed to livestock were consumed directly by people, the number of people who could be fed would be nearly 800 million,” says David Pimentel, professor of ecology at Cornell University. If the grain were exported, it would boost the US trade balance by $80 billion a year.

You’ll spare animals. Many vegetarians give up meat because of their concern for animals. Ten billion animals are slaughtered for human consumption each year. And, unlike the farms of yesteryear where animals roamed freely, today most animals are factory farmed—crammed into cages where they can barely move and fed a diet tainted with pesticides and antibiotics. These animals spend their entire lives in crates or stalls so small that they can’t even turn around. Farmed animals are not protected from cruelty under the law—in fact, the majority of state anticruelty laws specifically exempt farm animals from basic humane protection.

You’ll save money. Meat accounts for 10 percent of Americans’ food spending. Eating vegetables, grains and fruits in place of the 200 pounds of beef, chicken and fish each nonvegetarian eats annually would cut individual food bills by an average of $4,000 a year.

Your dinner plate will be full of color. Disease-fighting phytochemicals give fruits and vegetables their rich, varied hues. They come in two main classes: carotenoids and anthocyanins. All rich yellow and orange fruits and vegetables—carrots, oranges, sweet potatoes, mangoes, pumpkins, corn—owe their color to carotenoids. Leafy green vegetables also are rich in carotenoids but get their green color from chlorophyll. Red, blue and purple fruits and vegetables—plums, cherries, red bell peppers—contain anthocyanins. Cooking by color is a good way to ensure you’re eating a variety of naturally occurring substances that boost immunity and prevent a range of illnesses.

It’s a breeze. It’s almost effortless these days to find great-tasting and good-for-you vegetarian foods, whether you’re strolling the aisles of your local supermarket or walking down the street at lunchtime. If you need inspiration in the kitchen, look no further than the Internet, your favorite bookseller or your local vegetarian society’s newsletter for culinary tips and great recipes. And if you’re eating out, almost any ethnic restaurant will offer vegetarian selections. In a hurry? Most fast food and fast casual restaurants now include healthful and inventive salads, sandwiches and entrées on their menus. So rather than asking yourself why go vegetarian, the real question is: Why haven’t you gone vegetarian?

So todays' jam is Jill Scott's "Missing You". Such a beautiful melody on that one. I think I'm going to try using that song the next time I meditate. It really relaxes me... It's the chanting. Anywho... How are you guys?!? What's goin on where you're at? How's the weather? Fall is blowing on Summers neck and she is about to go. Still reaches temps up to 86 and such, but I can feel fall around the corner. I have enjoyed the lower temps so much. Today I wore a wash-n-go and drove around in Weezy just letting the wind style my hair for the day. So here I am after running a million errands... Smooches!

These pants are ancient. I bought them when I found out I was pregnant with twins... 7 yrs ago! I could live in them... so comfortable! They are serious man repellers because of the bagginess, but I try to balance that out with showing my arms and my collarbone.

So as some of you may have noticed a few of my older posts were named after songs from Adele's "19" and "21" album (Rolling In The Deep, Daydreamer, Take It All, Set Fire To The Rain, I'll Be Waiting, Turning Tables, and Rumour Has It). I couldn't get enough of that CD and still can't. In heavy rotation at this moment is Ms. Jill Scott's The Light of The Sun. My post titles (when appropriate) will be names after my favorite songs from this album. I already featured "So Gone" featuring Paul Wall. I just love that song. Yeah I know it's nasty, but I'm grown LOL. Anyways, please cop that album if you haven't already and when you do, purchase it from locally owned music stores. Especially those that support REAl music like Mood's Music here in Atlanta.

Now on to today's fit. When I take breaks from my blog it is usually because I lack inspiration, am reinventing myself (I get bored easily), or I'm just darn busy! I'd almost gotten fed up with the fashion bloggers world when I was awakened by the lovely Natural Belle of Hairspiration and Folake of the Style Pantry (whom is also up for Chictopia Influential Blogger of The Year. Pls Vote!)

I did not opt for the big hair today because I protective style throughout the week and let 'er loose on the weekends, but I did throw in Folake's awesome taste for bold colors, ethnic patterns, and bracelets up to her elbows! Every other Wednesday is my Massage Envy Appointment (it also means no make-up day). I absolutely love my masseuse Jill. She knows just the right amount of pressure for my tense muscles. Does anyone else get regular treatments for themselves?

Anywho, I always dress as comfortable as possible because you have to get undressed and also because I like to be as cozy when my massage is over. Today I was also going by the hubby’s job to meet up for lunch. That meant I couldn’t look my usual man repelling comfortable. So I opted for this simple, yet stylish ensemble instead LOL. Me and the kiddos made cupcakes. We used food coloring to switch it up a bit. The cupcakes were marbelized because in each cup we mixed all three colors. The frosting was yellow. I swear the pretty colors made them taste better teehee.

My fall season polishes. I luv em dark and metallic. All of these are old. There's nothing new about them, but they are my fall staples. EVERY fall I wear them.

Let me tell ya'll something, job hunting has become as cut throat as dating nowadays (I only know about the dfating part through word of mouth LOL). N-T-Ways... So glad that it is over. Next is, soon as September 1st at 12am I think I started shopping. My hubby grounded me from shopping for the month of August and man was it hard. I just put all my extra energy into working out LOL. SO far I've lost 5 lbs and hope to keep movin.

I have been neglecting my blog. It's so terrible I know. So many things happened all at once and I just did not have the time to update or take pics. It's been so HOT!!! So, when I started my workout routine I got runners knee. Then after that healed, I got inflammation of my rib cage (so every time I inhaled it felt like my someone punched me in my chest). So after I got better, my hubby got sick and was in the hospital for 4 days. So now I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. I can't lie. I'm a little down and depressed because my workout regime got so thrown off by all the crap going on. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I really hate when things (my plans) get thrown off.

I am also job hunting right now and it has been hell to say the least.

MY LOCS: are gone.I'll wear wigs, head wraps, whatever until my hair is long enough for my favorite style... two pigtails LOL.

I guess those Jamaica pics will have to constitute as my before shots for the watch me shrink series because my stinky poo hubby thinks my weight loss will not be visible to the naked eye so he wouldn't take before pics for me...

He says that's a compliment...

I personally think there will be a big difference... although he is usually right about these things. Anywho, on Wednesday when I began my "Watch me Shrink" I weighed in at 156.4. Wednesday we ran/walk a mile and a half. Today we ran/walk 2.5 miles. I was dying and my butt cheeks are sore because they bounce when I run. I believe we will be running about 5 days a week.

I am going to do a 5k at the end of September! Super excited!!!

I will DEFINITELY be taking the camera with me for my check-in next week and my son can be my camera man if the hubby is still a stinky poo LOL! My goal weight is 135 however 140 is ideal. I'm 5'7 and I have weighed between 135-140 since I was 19. I gained this weight during the two years I was in school (2009-2011) and it SUCKS!

Well, I am finally frustrated enough with the way my clothes fit to get off my butt and lose this lovely 15lbs I gained. I really would like to lose them before it gets cool because I can barely fit into my jeans (booty got real wide ya'll). As I've said before, I'm a pear. All my weight I gain in my lower half (waist hips and thighs). I'm going to lose the weight by eating 1500 calories (or less) a day and by working out. I'm going to do the workout I hate the most in this world... RUNNING! I hate running. It was the beginning of my love hate relationship with the Army LOL! My husband is an avid runner, so I'll be running with him. The last time I ran with him was in April. We only worked out together 4 times and in a week I lost 8lbs! He works me hard, but we never work out longer than 30 mins. I told him when he gets out the Army he should be a personal trainer. He's a BEAST!!! Anyways, tonight I will post my first "Watch Me Shrink" video. Please post comments! I would love some support along the way! Anyways, see you guys later tonight!

I thought I would have had time to do one last post before my vacation, but I was so busy getting three kids and two dogs packed up to go to grandma's house that I did not have a chance. Believe it or not, this was my first carnival after being in Atlanta almost 5 years. I just never liked the idea of going alone with three kids. This year the hubby was home to enjoy the festivities. It was soooo hot. I was dripping sweat from every pore on my body! But the energy out there was so amazing. Young and old dancing and gyrating to de music. It was great to be around so much culture. She had a smile that would light up the room. I loved the sassiness of her character Anna. You believed her. She disappeared as an actress and became your grandmother before the episode was even over. My favorite episode with her had to be this one...

School is almost over! YAYYYY! This is the last week of school for my kiddos. Got plenty of plans to keep them (and myself) busy this summer. What are your summer plans?

My Jamaica trip is creeping up on me and I gained all the weight back plus 5lbs. HA! Wasn't expecting that one. It's all good. I'll be back on grind full-time after school.

So I'm sure you are all noticing my hair. I have gotten myself loc extensions. I've been wanting locs for so long and every method I used I didn't stick with it. I figured if I paid for it, then I'd keep them in. They were done by Keisha the Loc Goddess here in Atlanta. She is amazing!!! I am more than excited and happy with the results. Please check her out if you are looking for a great loctician.

So back to my hair... these are permanent. I can cut them out when my locs get to a length I'm comfortable with or I could leave them in indefinitely. I actually wanna cut these into an asymmetrical bob. I will keep you guys (who are interested) updated on how they progress as I go through my journey.

Mother's Day 2011

My Mother's Day started out really slow. The hubby and I sat in bed til we "felt like" gettin up. The kids stayed at grandma's for the night and she wasn't dropping them off til 12. Hunny went downstairs to let the dogs out and came back with roses

(my favorite) and then he got up and made me my favorite breakfast (ackee and saltfish with fried plaintains).

When the kids came home, they rushed to give me my mother's day gifts they made at school. So cayute tee-hee!

Then later that night we all went out to my favorite restaurant, Spoon.

I'm taking fashion advice from J Lo. Whenever the gray hairs strike, wear a turban or a great scarf. Hope you Ladies enjoyed your Mother's Day!

1. Got this adorable mug at the hair show. Loves it!

2. School is kicking my butt again, but I am almost done (well for now LOL). This is my last class and then I'll have my Associates in Early Education. Going to take a nice little break then hop back on board for my Bachelors.

3. My kids are getting so big. My son was all up under my boobs the other day. I was like, "When did you get so tall?"

4. Going to Jamaica this summer. Been working out. Lost 2 lbs already. Trying to go for 10 more. Doing a little P90X mixed with Tae-Bo, Yoga, Dancing, and Walkign through my hilly neighborhood (is that a word?).

5. Oh... every month I'm goint o challenge myself. For May it is to work out 5 days a week. I hope I can do it!

6. My husband says I'm the luckiest person he's ever met. I always run into celebs, personalities, and just all around awesome people. Imagine my surprise when I was wandering through the mall and saw the lady I dream of having green tea with... Ms. Ladene Clark!!! She is absolutely gorgeous in person (and tiny... and tall). She said I was stunning!?! Huh! Wow! That pretty much made my year. I told her all about my likkle blog and how I wanted to have green tea with her. She seemed completely oblivious to the fact that people are online drooling over her, her locs, and her talent. I just love humble people. Anyways, excuse the pic, had no idea I was going to be in one when I left the house.

APPARENTLY WALMART AND TARGET ARE ALL OUT OF THEIR FREE SAMPLES. THE MAGAZINE I GOT THE ORIGINAL SAMPLE IN COULD HAVE BEEN ONE OF MANY BUT HERE'S A LIST OF MY SUBSCRIPTIONS: PEOPLE STYLEWATCH, ALLURE, GLAMOUR, LUCKY, SELF, OR BAZAAR. GOOD LUCK LADIES! REMEMBER, WALMART AND RITE AID WILL ALLOW YOU TO RETURN MAKE-UP.

So every has been listening to me RAVE about Maybelline's Fit Me Foundation and i thought it would be great to let you guys know how I found out this product would indeed "Fit Me". In one of my magazine subscriptions there was an entire page of every shade they offer with a small sample. Come to find out, there's actually a link from Walmart that you can fill out and they will send you the same sheet along with a coupon. So please go here to try out this foundation and see if they have a shade that suits you. For those of you that have already tried it, there is buy one get one 50% off at Kmart and Rite Aid (use your coupon to double up on the savings). Walgreens has it on sale 40% off. CVS says if you spend $10 they'll give you $3 extra bucks. Fit Me foundation runs about $5.99 regularly. Again, use your coupon ($1 off). So this is what the sample sheet looks like.

So here's my list of Spring Musts:

1. Jumpsuits. Whether they're shorts or pant jumpsuits, rock em!

2. Bold colors. Think Bollywood and jewel tones. The bolder, the better.

3. Purple eyeshadow. Not with an entire purple outfit LoL. Wear it whether you are wearing a speck of purple or not.

4. Nude shoes and chunky platforms. Wooden, cork, natural material heels. Anything reminscent of a 70's sandal is what's up.

5. Big buns... your hair of course. Big pretty buns on top of your head. Not the low buns. Pile it high Girls!

6. Pink, orange, fuschia, and coral lips. Yes, you can!

7. Pretty hair accessories. My best friend should have been named the starter of this trend. She always turns and old antique brooch into a hair pin. It makes the plainest hairstyle look pretty.

8. Small purses. I know... I love my big bags too, but for Spring, carry a small purse with the essentials: lipgloss, mascara, blush, spritz, and a credit card LoL.

TIP: Wear anything floral, colorful, drapey, or lace. Your can't go wrong with any of those. Keep your cheeks rosey and pink.

If you notice a few (a heck of a lot) posts are gone it's because I want to change the direction of this blog. I used to speak on quite a few personal topics. I will still speak on things within my own boundaries, but this blog started out as my own little diary when I was going through mess, changes, and just overall trying to find myself.
